Te Urewera National Park

Te Urewera is one of the more remote national parks in New Zealand. It's quite an interesting drive to get there, a twisty dirt road through a few mountain ranges and small isolated Maori towns. Funny thing about this trip is my eyes were closed with my head hung out the window most of the trip. I was so incredibly car sick and I have never been car sick before in my life. It was like being in the first trimester of pregnancy times 10! We decided it had to be the terrible suspension on our car coupled with the road conditions. Lately, I get sick on any twisty dirt road. It really is a pain!

Lake Waikaremoana

The kids loved sleeping in the loft part of our little cabin. We sort of forgot the pak n play on this trip which made for a super rough night of sleep for John and us!

We hiked to another lake and rented a little boat to go fish and hike around a little island in the middle of the lake. It was quite an uphill hike for Joe but after a few tantrums about his legs being "broken" he settled in and did great. When we got to the lake it turned out they gave us a key to a boat that didn't exist. LAME! So Todd had to "jimmy" a lock on another boat. Success! However, by that time, storm clouds had come and we didn't have enough time to get to the island, hike back and return the key. Total bummer! So, we attempted some fishing with no success and called it a day once it really started to rain. At least we all looked cute in our life jackets!
